Instagram has been dying over the last year. What was once the high spirited community we called the “solar sphere” splintered off into so many sub categories and lost so much of its original Thumos that it is almost unrecognizable. Going in-depth into the solar sphere and the broader right wing internet will be a post in of itself, but in short, Instagram is not the way forward and is not nearly as fun a place as it used to be.
I love the community I’ve built there, but I no longer have much to say in short essays that will be shown to only a fraction of my audience. There is no reason to sink along with a dying platform.
From now on I will mostly use Instagram as my community hub. The platform is best for mass-appeal content, aesthetics, stories, and the occasional short essay to funnel readers into higher quality content, like this Substack.
Here, I plan to post my longer writings on a variety of topics, including political science, mythology, literature, philosophy, and culture.
Another reason for moving to Substack is that my passion for the writing itself I do on Instagram has declined, as the medium itself is too limiting.
A well written short essay is a great thing, but it only allows me to scratch the surface of a topic. There is far too much repetition of the same basic points on Instagram, and I have more to offer than tired cliches on masculinity or RETVRNING to classical Europe.
Taking part in the larger culture war requires content of a higher quality. Memes, aesthetics, and short essay posts all have their place, in fact they are essential, but they can only do so much in promoting the ideals of the dissident right wing. They are gateways, not the core. At a certain point, they even become an anti-intellectual crutch.
The “solar”, “trad”, right wing movement, whatever you want to call it, will never accomplish anything if it does not move beyond posting pictures of Greek statues and treating Marcus Aurelius like a prophet. (I know I said I would talk in-depth about this later, but seriously, the obsession with Hellenic and Roman aesthetics should stop. Most of the perpetrators are actually Germanic/Celtic anyway. Retvrn to Beowulf and the Sagas. STOP LARPING.)
I am not a conservative. I am firmly against all forms of Liberalism. I also do not idolize the past.
I do believe there is much of value in the past that has since been lost, but this was not beacause of any inherit value in its antiquity. There was ugliness, death, evil, and chaos in the ancient world as well. Rather, I believe that the West at one time possessed a spirit, a zeitgeist, one that has almost completely faded, that we must keep alive.
We are living in the winter of the Western world, and it is our job to keep its spark alight.
The core of my writing and brand is in “fighting the long defeat”. This is not a blackpilled view. It simply means that regardless of how hopeless the situation, good and evil do not change. The only honorable course of action is to continue on. Fighting for truth and the light is the only path forward, whether we are truly in the last days of the West or on the verge of a Renaissance. It matters not which.
If a single man wants to change society, he best do it from the top down. Trying to always work from the bottom up (with memes/Instagram and the like) can only get you so far. Trying to push the movement by intellectualizing so it can have a more "top-down influence" style is certainly the best track for us to follow, as if we continually try and push only with tired cliches and low-brow humor we will surly stall due to low interest and not having any new ideas or any real path forwards. Great men strive for constant improvement, growth, and stimulation. Without a growth of the ideas behind the movement, how do you cultivate great men for the movement?
You also mention that you are not a conservative, which is essential, as just trying to ride off the backs of a decrepit, failing ideology will only lead to continued stagnation and failure. A new spark is needed to light the now dim fires of Western Civilization, and we must strive to be the beginnings of that spark.
I really appreciate your work and look forwards to reading your writings as everything I have read of yours so far has been fascinating. Keep up the great work and know you have already helped souls see the light.
I too like your work. It is intelligent and insightful.
